Gene O. Garland
Gene Osborne Garland, 87, of Hot Springs National Park, Ark., passed away March 7, 2023.
He was born May 19, 1935, in Ruston, La., to the late John Osborne (J.O.) Garland and Annie Belle Mallory Garland.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jacquie Runyan Garland; sons, Jim Garland (Marty), of Conway, Joel Garland (Jean), of Lillie, La., and Jeff Garland (Kim), of Collierville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Joshua Garland, Holly (Aaron) Nicholson, Logan (Morgan) Garland, Clark (Megan) Garland, Emily (Brad) Turner, Katie (Marlon) Cook, Anna Garland, Reagan Garland and Miles Garland; nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Robert G. Garland (Barbara) of Springhill, La.
Gene was a native of Haynesville, La., and graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a forestry degree. He spent his working career with International Paper Company and Cabe Land Company. He enjoyed his retirement years fishing on Lake Hamilton, cultivating gardens, flowers, trees or anything that could be grown. A lifelong outdoorsman and conservationist, he especially enjoyed taking his sons, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins or acquaintances fishing and was known for whistling while he worked.
He was a member of Oaklawn United Methodist Church.
No formal services are planned at this time, although a gathering of family and friends will be held soon.
