Garland County Library to host adult Boggle Tournament April 5
The Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave., will host an adult Boggle Tournament at noon Wednesday, April 5, in the library’s auditorium.
Registration is required for competitors, and all spectators are welcome.
“Boggle is a word game in which players compete to find the most number of unique words from a 4-by-4 grid of lettered dice. The grid is determined by shaking 16 dice and turning them onto a tray that each competitor searches for three minutes. Any repeated words are disqualified and the winner is the player with the highest point total,” a news release said.
Paul Kagebein, the library’s Adult Programs coordinator, said in the release that the library “has hosted all kinds of fun competitions for adults ranging from table tennis to spelling bees to Mario Kart. Now we’re introducing the classic game Boggle. Our goal is to bring together Boggle players from all walks of life and provide them a chance to win prizes by showing off their word wizardry.”
Adult Services Librarian Greg Wallace said he is also looking forward to hosting this tournament.
“We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Boggle tournament that promises to be an exciting event for all language aficionados. With a range of exciting prizes to offer and a comprehensive set of rules to ensure fair play, this tournament promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who participate,” Wallace said in the release.
The library’s first Boggle Tournament will be a double-elimination format with prizes for the top three scoring players. The following criteria will be used to judge the tournament (all rules will be clearly defined prior to the
tournament):
Words must be at least three letters long. No letter cube may be used twice in the same word.
Words must appear in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line either forward or backward.
No proper nouns or hyphenated words are allowed.
Both singular and plural forms of words are allowed.
