Cardiovascular care at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs earned the hospital a spot on Fortune and PINC AI’s 2023 list of 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals nationwide and among the top 10 community hospitals in the country, according to a news release.

“The list recognizes CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs’ significantly higher survival rates associated with cardiac care, including fewer readmissions and complications,” the release said.

“Even as we work with our communities to help address the root causes of heart disease in Arkansas, which experiences some of the highest rates nationally, our healing ministry constantly strives to improve the care our patients can expect when they need it,” CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs President Dr. Douglas Ross said in the release.

“This independent, data-based assessment shows that when our patients come to us from across Southwest Arkansas for cardiovascular care, they will receive some of the best care in the country,” Ross said.

CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs was identified through independent quality analysis provided by PINC AI and reported by Fortune, according to the release. To select top performers, objective, quantitative research was performed using publicly available data measuring cardiac care in the United States.

“As part of the CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute, the cardiologists and heart surgeons at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs are leading the way in heart care and advancing resources for patients in southwest Arkansas with aggressive diagnostic routines, the latest surgical procedures and heart health education,” it said.

CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs was also recently recognized with a national Women’s Choice Award for Heart Care, earned Primary Heart Attack Center, Advanced Primary Stroke Center and Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certifications from The Joint Commission, making it the only hospital in Arkansas to be recognized in all three areas of care in 2022, and was highlighted in the 2022 Fortune/ Merative 100 Top Hospitals List, it said.

“Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for all Americans, resulting in nearly 700,000 deaths and $229 billion in added costs each year,” Leigh Anderson, Premier’s president of Performance Services and the leader of PINC AI, said in the release.

“Given the life and death nature of this condition, patients and their loved ones need credible information to help them determine where to go for the best possible care. This objective, data-driven study proves that CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs excels across a range of core performance indicators, which directly leads to significantly higher survival rates associated with cardiac care, with fewer readmissions and complications.”

This year, the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals program honorees delivered better outcomes while operating more efficiently and at a lower cost. Compared to a peer group of other cardiovascular hospitals, the hospitals included on this year’s list stood apart due to significantly higher — 19% to 40.6% — inpatient survival rates; patients who had 13.2% to 15.4% fewer complications; $860 to $5,076 less in total costs per patient case; and higher 30-day survival rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and coronary artery bypass grafting patients.
