Dr. Larry D. Stanley died at home on May 21, 2023.

Larry was born on Dec. 16, 1942, in Hazen, Ark., to Florence and Roy E. Stanley. He graduated from Hazen High School in 1960 and worked at Stuttgart Shoe Corporatio­n until fall 1963. In 1967, Larry earned a B.A. degree from the University of Central Arkansas, and in 1968 and 1971, he earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in psychology from the University of Southern Mississipp­i. He was an associate professor of psychology at Henderson State University from 1970-1975.

Dr. Stanley served as a clinical psychologi­st for 30 years in community mental health centers, inpatient facilities and geriatric private practice. He was a member of the American Psychologi­cal Associatio­n, National Health Service Providers in Psychology, a Fellow of the Prescribin­g Psychologi­sts’ Register, and a Board-Certified Diplomate in Psychophar­macology.

He was a published author on bereaved parents and a lifelong student of philosophy and religion.

Larry’s interests included writing poetry, meditation, dancing and charity work. He was a former member of Creative Life Church, Hot Springs Elks Lodge No. 380, and the Hot Springs Emblem Club No. 194. He was an active member of the Hot Springs YMCA.

Larry is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Daniel Stanley; his parents; two brothers, Eugene Stanley and Irvin Stanley; and two sisters, Sybil Haynes and Helen Gatlin.

He is survived by his beloved Carole Day of Hot Springs; a daughter. Tammy Lynn Waggoner (Brent) of Cabot; a granddaugh­ter, Katye Waggoner Campbell (Chris) of Cabot; a loving niece, Linda Gatlin of Ohio, other nieces and nephews, and his former wife of 33 years, Linda Stanley of Hot Springs.

There will be no visitation or service. A private burial will be held at Memorial Gardens.
