Drugs, equipment found in SUV after driver allegedly flees from traffic stop

- STEVEN MROSS

A Hot Springs Village man was arrested on felony charges late Saturday after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop by a Garland County sheriff’s deputy who then found drugs and multiple items of paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Todd Shannon Goslin, 57, who lists a North Babalona Drive address, was taken into custody shortly before 9:30 p.m. and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, possession of a controlled substance, meth, punishable by up to 10 years, and felony fleeing, punishable by up to six years.

Goslin, who is on parole, was also charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless driving and speeding over 15 mph over the speed limit and was cited for driving left of center and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He was being held on an $11,000 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to court records, Goslin was convicted on July 6, 2020, of felony drug charges and sentenced to six years in prison, with all of it suspended; on April 14, 2022, of felony drug charges and sentenced to four years in prison; and has felony drug charges pending from an arrest on Nov. 19 where he was later released on a $12,500 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit on Saturday’s arrest, around 9:15 p.m., GCSO Deputy Thomas Fox was traveling north on Highway 7 approaching Brookhill Ranch Road when he saw a white GMC Yukon “brake suddenly” and turn onto Brookhill, prompting Fox to follow it.

Fox reportedly saw the Yukon cross the double yellow line into the fog line so he turned on his lights and siren to make a traffic stop, but the Yukon “sped up and fled.”

“During the pursuit, the driver drove on the wrong side of the road, did not signal at any of his turns, and sped,” Fox states, noting the Yukon proceeded to High-peak Road and then onto Warren Watson Road where he clocked it going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone.

As the pursuit passed the Hot Spring Village gate, a Hot Springs Village Police unit pulled out in front of the Yukon and then stopped on a one-lane bridge, forcing the Yukon to stop in the 1400 block of Warren Watson. At that point, the Yukon’s driver, later identified as Goslin, reportedly got out, threw his hands in the air and yelled, “You got me!”

During a search of Goslin, officers reportedly found a baggie of suspected meth in his front pocket. In searching the vehicle, GCSO Cpl. Matthew Cogburn allegedly found 12 boxes of 300 matches, three boxes of 20-count pseudoephedrine tablets, one bottle of Heet, a bottle of Bar’s Leaks Block Seal and a bottle of butane fuel.
