Tail Tales: Thanos goes from hurt to home
Thanos is a pit-mix stray suspected of being a bait dog before showing up at Angela Beasley’s house.
“He had bite marks all on him right here,” she pointed. “He had scars on his back, his legs, his underneath. I opened the door, and he ran. He was terribly scared of the wind even, you know. … ”
Beasley grabbed a hot dog to entice Thanos to come to her. She put him outside in the fence for a while, thinking his owners would come to get him. A couple of days passed, and nobody came to claim Thanos.
“Then, I decided maybe he doesn’t need to go back where he was at, you know,” she said, “I mean, he’s terrified of everything.”
Beasley had decided to find him a good home, but her husband had other plans.
“I come home one day,” she said, “and my husband says, ‘I’ve named the dog.’ I said, ‘OK.’ So here we are.”
The Beasleys have changed Thanos’ life through love.
“We just tried to show him something he had never seen before, and that’s love. Once we started doing that, he started coming around, and now he loves us back.”
They also taught him how to play, something he didn’t know how to do when they first got him. Beasley said he wouldn’t know what to do with toys and would walk away. He also wasn’t affectionate to the family.
“Now he’s the biggest, most loving, playful baby you have ever met,” she said. “I got him all checked out at the vet, and he’s doing great. You couldn’t ask for a better dog, and I don’t know how anybody could ever be so mean to him.”
Beasley said the new addition to the family made for a more loving home and that Thanos is a major part of the family.
“He just brings more love to the family,” she said. “I mean, there’s a lot of love here already, but the kids love him. He loves the kids. We love him. Oh my gosh, it’s just so much more love because he’s just so full of it.
“It’s amazing from where he’s come from to where he’s at now. You would have never thought when you met this dog that he would be capable of so much love. He’s so loving.”
