J’ville sweeps Magnet Cove tournament
MAGNET COVE — The Jessieville boys and girls basketball teams each won the 2023 Battle at the Cove tournament.
On the boys side, the Lions picked up wins over Parkers Chapel, Ouachita and Centerpoint. Jessieville defeated Parkers Chapel 6038 in the first round, and Spencer Morrow led the way with 15 points and five assists.
In the semifinals, the Lions defeated Ouachita 57-41. Morrow led the way once again with 20 points and six assists. Emanuel Pricop added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Brisonn Johnson finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
The semifinal was actually postponed at halftime due to a roof leak, and the Lions had to play the second half and the final game on the same day.
In the final against conference rival Centerpoint, Jessieville outscored the Knights 15-7 in the final quarter to win 51-49. Emanuel Pricop led Jessieville with 12 points and six rebounds.
On the girls side, the Lady Lions started with a 59-39 win over Ouachita. Payton Futch led Jessieville with 26 points and 11 rebounds. In the semifinals against Maumelle Charter, Jessieville won 66-48. Futch led the way once again with 30 points. Karstyn Scriver added 25 points.
The Lady Lions cruised to victory in the finals with a 59-36 win over Centerpoint. Futch ended with 35 points, and Scrivner tallied seven.
FOUNTAIN LAKE COMPETES IN PEA RIDGE TOURNAMENT
PEA RIDGE — The Fountain Lake boys basketball team competed in the Pea Ridge Tournament and won one game while losing two.
The Cobras started off with a 59-55 loss to County Line. Dillon Dettmering led the Cobras with 27 points, and Brayden Buss scored 11.
Fountain Lake then played Neosho, a team from Missouri. Neosho jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Cobras 54-28. Wyatt Clem scored 11 points for Fountain Lake.
Fountain Lake concluded the Pea Ridge Tournament with a 6652 win over Providence Academy. Dettmering scored 27 points, and Nick Johnson scored 14 points for Fountain Lake.
LAKESIDE 7TH GRADE BOYS WIN TWO GAMES
In a jamboree, the 7th grade Lakeside boys basketball team defeated Hot Springs 37-27. Colin Foust led the way for Lakeside with 14 points, and KJ Coleman added seven points.
Lakeside also defeated Malvern. The Rams won 44-25, and Jamar Johnson led the way with nine points while Tre Williams scored seven.
