Special needs dog is found 10 months after disappearing
The mysterious disappearance of her beloved dog led to a 10-month heartbreak for Amanda Bell, and she worried she would never see her companion again.
Rocky, a now 3-year-old Pomapoo, was Bell’s last gift from her mother before her passing in May of 2021.
“He’s just kind of been my life like it gets like my child, and in August of 2022, he disappeared. It was heartbreaking. I kept him on Facebook and shared him constantly, I wanted my baby home, you know?”
Rocky is a special needs pup, suffering from hypoglycemia and liver issues. Bell said he is also a picky eater, noting what he eats one day, he might not eat the next.
Bell thought she would never see Rocky again, especially not alive, until she got a message in June from a woman on Facebook.
“This little old lady was contacting me,” Bell said. “She said, ‘I think I found your baby,’ and she was telling me that she went to go take her trash out, and he was there all matted and dirty, and it was hot. So she took him in and bathed him. She got him combed out and stuff, and he slept with her, and she just told me the whole story.”
Bell said the lady came across Bell’s Facebook post the next day. At that point, Bell had investigated many leads, but none of them turned out to be Rocky.
“I just really wasn’t expecting it to be him,” she said. “He about broke his neck jumping out of her arms and through my window when I said his name. I got out of the car and was hugging (the woman) and telling her how much I love her — and I do, I do. I may never see her again, but I love her.”
Since being reunited, Bell and Rocky practically do everything together, she said, noting Rocky never leaves her sight.
She emphasized the importance of never giving up on looking for missing pets because they do remember, and sometimes, they might just be found again.
