Motorcyclist killed on Highway 14 Thursday
A man was killed Thursday after he was thrown from his motorcycle, which was hit by a big rig on Highway 14 in Canyon Country, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Angel R. Castro, a 30-year- old resident of Northridge, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.
Castro was riding a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he entered the southbound lanes of Highway 14 from Soledad Canyon Road about 12:15 a.m. Thursday, California Highway Patrol Officer Josh Greengard wrote in a news release.
The motorcycle apparently hit a raised concrete curb while negotiating the on-ramp and Castro was thrown from the vehicle, officials said.
Truck driver Edward R. McKinney, 53, of Fernley, Nevada, was traveling southbound on the freeway in a 2016 Freightliner and collided with the Harley Davidson, Greengard said.
It was unknown if the truck also hit the motorcyclist, the CHP officer said, but Castro suffered fatal injuries.
McKinney was not injured in the collision.
Two SigAlerts were issued during the investigation into the fatal crash, partly shutting down the
southbound Highway 14. The second one remained in effect until late in the morning.
The incident is still under investigation to determine, among other factors, whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
Anyone with information regarding the crash was encouraged to contact Officer G. Ward at the Newhall CHP Office at 661-294-5540.
