Exec quits Chamber

- By Jana Adkins Signal Business Editor

In a surprise move, Terri Crain has resigned as chairwoman and executive director of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The decision was announced Thursday afternoon.

Crain is relocating to Texas with her family, according to a statement released.

No reason was given, and no effective date

was provided.

“I’m as in the dark as you are about the press release,” said a member of the board of directors.

Crain couldn’t be reached for comment.

She first took over the leadership post of the Chamber on Jan. 4, 2011.

The Chamber has been struggling with

unconfirmed financial issues, resulting in Crain saying a few months ago that she was forced to lay off some of the Chamber’s staff members.

And she had previously said that the rent at their offices was too high for the Chamber, forcing it to conduct several fundraising activities to keep the budget balanced.

But, Crain was credited for guiding the Chamber

through the economic downturn, according to Curtis Woods, 2016 chairman of the board of the directors who was quoted in the statement. Woods said she was “key in growing the member outreach and events departments.”

“Terri has been instrumental in growing the Chamber’s presence in the Santa Clarita Valley, and has been an asset to the local business community,” Woods said.

The board intends to conduct a nationwide search for a suitable replacement for Crain, the statement said.

The board hasn’t named an interim executive director.
