Hang Loose at Summer Bash!

- By Mayor Bob Kellar

The weather is warm, the nights are long and school is out. The City of Santa Clarita is celebrating the heart of summer with our third annual beach-themed Summer Bash in Canyon Country on Friday, July 29 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Luther Drive between Soledad Canyon Road and Mandan Street.

Residents of all ages are invited to “hang loose” at this free street party. The festivities will include live music, family activities, food trucks, and a beer garden, making Summer Bash one of Santa Clarita’s most popular community events.

Be sure to dress cool and comfortable as Summer Bash features many fun activities that you’ll definitely want to participate in. Hawaiian shirts and beachwear is encouraged!

And what would a summer beach party be without music? Definitely not our Summer Bash! Local cover band, Rebel Heart, will entertain the crowd with current country hits, classic rock and their original tunes. So put on your dancing shoes… or flip flops and get ready to hit the dance floor.

Did you miss the mechanical bull at Cowboy Festival? No problem - Summer Bash has a mechanical shark! Not everyone can say they rode a shark over summer – but you can if you come to Summer Bash!

Think you can conquer the shark and want even more? We bring our version of a sea cliff to the streets of Canyon Country with a 20-foot rock wall. The rock wall is perfect for those who want to test out their strength, agility and endurance.

If the thought of riding a shark or climbing a wall is just too much for you to handle, maybe the inflatable 20-foot Kraken-themed dual slide is more of your style. Little ones can also make their way through a tropical obstacle course and treasure hunters will definitely enjoy shopping through participating vendor booths.

All of these fun summer activities may get you a little hungry. Not to worry, we’ve got you covered. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from a delicious selection of food trucks, including Tainamite, The Grilled Cheese Truck, Los Ruizenores and Kona Ice. A beer garden will also be available for adults from Route 66 Classic Grill.

I hope you’ve been enjoying the beautiful warm weather and that you and your family have had an opportunity to relax and spend some quality time together. If you haven’t, it’s not too late to have fun this summer. The City of Santa Clarita offers an abundance of amenities, parks and entertainment to help you make your summer a most memorable one.

We hope to see you at Summer Bash! Have a safe and happy summer.
