Murder suspects arrested in Colorado
Man and woman also accused of kidnapping victim’s three children; kids found safe in New Mexico this week
A man and a woman wanted for allegedly kidnapping three children whose mother was found murdered near Gorman earlier this month were arrested in Colorado Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station said.
Kidnapping suspects Joshua Robertson and Brittany Humphrey, wanted also for questioning in the murder of Kimberly Harvill, were arrested at a hotel in Pueblo, Colorado, Thursday, LASD spokeswoman Nicole Nishida told The Signal.
“Shortly before noon, the Pueblo Police Department was conducting an unassociated investigation at a hotel and that’s when they interviewed Brittany Humphrey,” Lt. Joe Mendoza of the LASD’s Homicide Bureau told The Signal late Thursday afternoon.
“She was in a vehicle in the parking lot of the hotel and that’s where they found a child, Madison,” Mendoza said, noting the child safe and unharmed. “She (Humphrey) was with her.”
Detectives learned Wednesday that Robertson was believed to have an infant, Madison, in his care, Madison is not related to the three located missing children.
“Joshua Robertson was arrested two blocks away,” he said.
Robertson and Humphrey were each arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, Mendoza said.
The recovered child was placed in the protective custody of officials in Pueblo, Colorado.
The three Havrill children were found unharmed in New Mexico Wednesday, however the search for their alleged abductors continued.
Early Wednesday, detectives announced they were looking for the children of murder victim Kimberly Harvill and for a man and woman believed to be their kidnappers.
Warrants had been issued Wednesday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney for the arrest of Joshua Robertson and Brittany Humphrey for kidnapping Harvill’s children following her death, according to a news release written and issued by LASD Deputy Crystal Hernandez.
Detectives learned Wednesday afternoon that the three missing children had been located in a motel on the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The suspects left the children in the care of a Good Samaritan who in turn notified local law enforcement.
“We will be coordinating our efforts with the Department of Children and Family Services to arrange for the safe return of the children to California,” a spokeswoman said in the news release.
Harvill’s body was found lying in the brush by a motorist on Aug. 14 along Gorman Post Road, north of California State Route 138, in Lebec, near the Kern County line.
