An early morning standoff with local sheriff’s detectives serving an arrest warrant at a Canyon Country home ended with the arrest of one man who surrendered after a “chemical agent” was released in the home, a spokesman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said.

The standoff began about 5:30 a.m. Thursday on the 27400 block of Plumwood Avenue, when deputies tried to serve an arrest warrant, a deputy told The Signal Thursday morning.

Detectives called in the specialized SWAT team — called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau team — to assist them with “a high risk warrant at the location,” according to posting on the sheriff’s Facebook page.

The suspect, wanted for kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon, barricaded himself inside his residence, according to sheriff’s officials.

The homes of nearby residents were evacuated during the standoff.

The SEB Special Weapons Team eventually introduced chemical agents in the house, at which point the suspect surrendered to the Special Weapons Team without further incident, the SCV Sheriff’s Facebook posting reads.
