Those who want to honor actively-serving military members with Memorial Day banners are to submit their forms by Monday, May 5.

The city of Santa Clarita’s Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program honors SCV heroes with streetlight pole banners in Canyon Country, Valencia, Saugus and Newhall. Each 3 foot by 6 foot doublesided vertical banner includes the military member’s name, photo, branch and rank.

Honorees must actively be serving in the military and either be a current Santa Clarita resident or used to have lived in Santa Clarita themselves and be the immediate relative of someone who currently does.

“I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many hometown heroes from Santa Clarita Valley and they should be honored for their service,” Councilmember Bob Kellar said in a statement. “These banners are an excellent way to proudly share the names and faces of the men and women who serve our country and our community.”

Each banner costs $417.50 plus tax, but banners are currently available for a $100 discounted rate because of funds provided by donors. Additional sponsorships may also be available.

The banner will be displayed for a year in recognition of Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day. The same banner can be reused for a second year for $232.50.

Banners will be installed by Memorial Day on May 29.
