To encourage young readers, California Credit Union partnered with four Santa Clarita Valley school districts to support and launch a “4th-Grade Book Buy Program.”

The company donated a total of 900 books to 36 elementary schools in the Castaic Union School District, Saugus Union School District, Newhall School District and Sulphur Springs Union School District.

“Elementary school libraries play an essential role in encouraging students to discover the life-long joy of reading,” said California Credit Union CEO Steve O’Connell in a press release. “We know there is an ever growing need to continue to expand their libraries, and hope this program will provide muchneeded support to our local schools and their students.”

According to the California Credit Union, the organization reached out to local school district librarians and asked them to compile a list of fourth-grade books each school needed.

Representatives from the California Credit Union then purchased all of the books requested and delivered them individually to each local school.

The book donations extend the existing partnerships between the California Credit Union and the Santa Clarita community.

The company has supported the Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation’s programs like Principal for a Day, Teacher of the Year and the Literacy and Arts Festival, and has supported various events presented by the WiSH Education Foundation.

“We are excited to expand our school partnership programs in the Santa Clarita Valley with this important initiative to support young readers,” O’Connell said.
