West Ranch girls golf won the first Foothill League match of the season with a score of 201 on Tuesday at El Cariso Golf Course.

Hart followed in second place at 234, while Valencia finished third at 236. Golden Valley (271), Canyon (276) and Saugus (282) filled out the rest of the finishers.

West Ranch coach Jeff Holen said on Monday that the objective for league meet No. 1 was course management.

“The first match for us is to play against the course,” Holen said. “You don’t have to worry about matching up or anything.”

Campos shot a 2-under 34 for medalist honors in her first-ever league meet.

“Yes it’s a blessing for the team but also I think it’s a blessing for her,” Holden said on Monday. “Now she can work on her golf but enjoy the perks of being a team member, which I see.”

The Cats’ Noelle Song carded a 3-over, while Kimberly Tsai of Valencia and Stephanie Kang of West Ranch each scored 6-over.

Tsai is an up-and-coming freshman with a solid swing, Vikings coach John Minkus told The Signal on Monday.

“It’s nice to have somebody coming in with that competitive background,” Minkus said.

Foothill League play resumes on Sept. 12 at noon at Elkins Ranch Golf Course.
