Woman jumps from moving car on I-5

Authorities believe incident to be connected to a domestic violence call; driver believed to be alleged attacker

A woman who apparently jumped out of a moving car on Interstate 5 after being beaten allegedly by the driver, walked along the shoulder of the freeway, got into a van and vanished somewhere in Valencia’s industrial area.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday, California Highway Patrol officers scrambled to find the woman near Lyons Avenue, after she was reportedly seen being attacked by the driver.

“It was believed a vehicle on the freeway picked her up and took her to an address off Avenue Stanford. After that, we don’t know,” CHP Officer Josh Greengard told The Signal late Friday afternoon.

“We were not able to locate her,” he said.

When the incident began, CHP officers were already alerted to reports of a motorist in a white sedan, seen by other motorists, assaulting a female passenger.

The motorist, they were told, was driving erratically at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour, southbound on Interstate 5.

About five minutes later, the same CHP officers were updated with information that a woman jumped out of the car near Calgrove Boulevard.

Motorists on the freeway reported to CHP officers seeing the woman walking northbound on the shoulder of the freeway near Lyons Avenue

At 10:45 a.m. Friday, Greengard confirmed reports of the woman seen walking on the shoulder and told The Signal: “We’re still trying to find the woman.

“This is possibly related to a domestic violence call about a motorist on the southbound I-5,” he said. “Now, we have reports of the woman running on the right shoulder of the interstate.”

Minutes later, the woman reportedly was still seen running north from Lyons Avenue on the shoulder of southbound I-5, towards McBean Parkway.

The last report received by the CHP was that she was seen getting into a van.
