Michael Yauch, 60, passed away on January 13, 2018 in Newhall, CA. He was born in Santa Maria, CA to Bernard and Arlyne Yauch. The family would move to Orangevale, CA, where he attended Bella Vista High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Occidental College, graduating with a BA in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Rhetoric & Political Persuasion. While studying at Occidental, he discovered the game of rugby, which became his lifelong passion. After college, he became a financial planner with Shearson Lehman brothers in Glendale, eventually moving to Santa Clarita to work for Morgan Stanley.

In 1988, he married his wife Linda and later had two children Brandon and Trevor. A natural leader, his reach in the community was widespread. He was a founding member of Santa Clarita Business Group, was the president of his homeowner’s associatio­n, and co-founded the Santa Clarita Youth Rugby Club in 2004, where as a coach he directly impacted the lives of hundreds of children in Santa Clarita. He also continued to play for his college alumni rugby club, the Oxy Olde Boys, and often coached his youth team and played for his alumni team on the same day.

He is survived by his wife Linda; sons Brandon and Trevor; mother Arlyne Yauch; sisters: Cathy Medeiros (Jason), Paula Wombacher (Jeff) and Diane Sandy (Al); and brother Stephen Yauch (Martha). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday February 17, 2018 at Herrick Chapel on the campus of Occidental College, 1600 Campus Rd, Los Angeles. CA 90041. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa Clarita Valley Youth Rugby at www.scvyouthru­gby.com or the Occidental Rugby Alumni Associatio­n alumni.oxy.edu. Donations made in memory of Michael Yauch will go to the Rugby Fund.
