Charter school, new director welcome community to family night event
Santa Clarita Valley International charter school and its new director Farnaz Kaufman will welcome students and interested members of the community to campus this Thursday for a prospective family night.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the on-campus Shakespeare Theatre, located at 28060 Hasley Canyon Road in Castaic, school officials said. Similar to last week’s information night in Agua Dulce, attendees will be able learn first-hand what project-based learning is really about, as well as the options that are available at the school.
As iLEAD’s founding school, SCVi offers a student-centered approach to education that focuses on project-based and social-emotional learning principles, iLEAD officials said. Its curriculum is designed to equip students with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills necessary to succeed in a 21st century world.
Families will have the choice of site-based learning, as well as independent study, “which is no longer just sitting around and working at the kitchen table,” Sara Brown, a community outreach coordinator for SCVi Charter School and iLEAD schools, told the Signal prior to the information night in Agua Dulce.
For 10 years, iLEAD schools have promoted individualized instruction, active learning methods and opportunities for self-directed learning, school officials said. With a network of 13 charter schools throughout California and the Midwest, iLEAD empowers learners to become conscientious, compassionate and responsible citizens of the world, and inspires them to become creative thinkers and leaders with a lifelong love of learning.
Prospective families who are unable to attend informational night are invited to visit the website iLEADSantaClarita.org for more information.
