Mustangs sweep two

The Master’s University women’s volleyball team beat Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) and The Evergreen State College (Wash.) on Wednesday at the Hope Summer Slam in Fullerton. Both wins came by 3-0 scores.

Jane Cisar led the Mustangs (2-0) with 11 kills in each match. Emily Curtin and Autumn Stevens each added 12 kills on the day. McKenna Hafner totaled 37 digs for Master’s, which will wrap up its seasonopen­ing tournament today with matches against La Sierra University (Riverside) and Wayland Baptist University (Texas). TMU’s first home match is Aug. 25 against Marymount California University (Rancho Palos Verdes).

SCV’s Segal in U.S. Amateur

Santa Clarita Valley resident Corby Segal finished two rounds at the 2018 U.S. Amateur Championsh­ips in Pebble Beach, California with a score of 152. Segal missed the final cut by five strokes.

MLB

As of The Signal’s press deadline, the Dodgers are tied 3-3 with Giants in the bottom of the ninth inning in Los Angeles. Joc Pederson scored Yasiel Puig on a sacrifice fly to right. Matt Kemp and Manny Machado brought in the other two runs for Los Angeles. In his first action since May 5, Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed three hits and had six strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Angels 3, Padres 2

The Angels defeated the Padres 3-2 in San Diego thanks in part to a solo home run from catcher Rene Rivera in the top of the ninth inning. Rivera finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI as did Andrelton Simmons. Albert Pujols was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
