Lightning delays rumble at COC
Prep football: Indians score five touchdowns against Cowboys in first half of game
As of The Signal’s press deadline, Hart football was leading Canyon 38-7 with four seconds left in the second quarter.
Two lightning delays slowed the game, with the first coming at 8:22 p.m., causing a half hour delay. A second lightning sighting with four seconds remaining in the first half forced another delay.
Both teams were expected to take the field once again after a 30-minute delay, finish the second half, then go straight into the third quarter without halftime.
The Indians scored the first touchdown of the evening when
Zach Johnson pitched to Drew Munoz for a 47yard score with 10:11 left on the clock in the first quarter.
The lead was extended to 14-0 with 6:29 to go
when Johnson connected with sophomore Ryan Tomasziewski for a 22-yard touchdown.
In the second quarter, Taden Littleford scampered nine yards for another Hart touchdown at the 11:55 mark, then Johnson tossed a pass to Ashton Thomas, who took it 20 yards to make it 28-0 at 7:35.
Canyon was able to score later in the frame when Aydyn Litz connected with Ryan Valdes on a 12-yard strike with 4:54 left in the first half.
Prior to the second lightning delay, Johnson pitched to Munoz again, this time for a seven-yard score. Less than two minutes later, Aaron Rodriguez nailed a field goal to make it 38-7.
