The SCV Senior Center needs help, but don’t worry, it’s not in any trouble.

An anonymous donor has offered a matching donation “challenge gift” to the SCV Senior Center, which is in the process of building a new facility. For every dollar raised, the donor will match the donations up to $50,000.

“This donor just came to us with this offer,” said the center’s executive director Kevin MacDonald. “Some people just have the means to match donations, and we thought it was a wonderful and necessary opportunity for Santa Clarita.”

The offer was made to the Senior Center in late September and it began accepting donations towards the offer on Monday. According to MacDonald, the matching offer will be open until the new center is completed in March 2019.

The new facility will be three times the size of the current Senior Center and will offer expanded services and opportunities for senior citizens in Santa Clarita, including an expanded banquet hall, library and fitness center.

which is only 10,000 square feet,” MacDonald said. “We outgrew it years ago and now we’re serving around 10,000 seniors every year. This new facility will help support seniors for decades to come, and it’s a great investment in the future of the valley.
