Grace Baptist Church to host foster, adoption, orphan summit
Grace Baptist Church is looking to serve the foster, adoption and orphan community in Santa Clarita through ministry and its upcoming 2018 Foster, Adoption and Orphan Summit, the church announced.
The event is scheduled Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the church’s campus located on Copper Hill.
“Our goal is to reach out to the community to get insight to love the orphans,” said Melanie Bunn, care support assistant for the church. “And to give insight to how people can help.We also want to support those who are already helping the orphans.”
This is the third foster, adoption and orphan event the church has held, which it hosts every other year.
It will be a morning of inspiration, Bunn said. The event registration fee is $10.
The church will welcome guest speaker Jason Johnson from Texas. “I am a writer and speaker who encourages families and equips churches in their foster care and adoption journeys so they can find the hope and support they need along the way,” Johnson wrote on his blog. “I’m hopeful this is a place you can find encouragement and inspiration no matter where you are on your own journey.”
There will be other opportunities to hear about various topics in breakout sessions and the opportunity to visit with over 20 agencies about their organizations.
Guests are encouraged to bring children along, Bunn said. There will be child care for children up to sixth grade.
“We are offering a program for (kindergarten through sixth grade), to show them how they can help,” she said. “They will be getting boxes together for the children’s hunger fund.”
Grace Baptist Church’s foster adoption and orphan care ministry also meets monthly for classes. The congregation’s mission was inspired by two verses from the Bible, James 1:27 and Romans 8:14-16. “To glorify God by responding to the scriptures of caring for the orphan, fatherless and child in need,” James 1:27 reads.
“This specific ministry within Grace Baptist seeks to further equip, connect, teach, model and care for both the child in need and the church (the people) that God uses for this purpose,” Romans 8:14-16 reads.
The church’s Pastor Dan Borls used to be a social worker, Bunn said. “This is kind of his way of helping in some way. He has always had a soft heart for foster care.”
