Homicide detectives are investigating the discovery of human remains found Wednesday west of Magic Mountain Parkway and Railroad Avenue.

Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau updated information released earlier in the day about remains having been found by utility workers.

On Wednesday morning, shortly after 11 a.m., deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of remains found in the Santa Clara River wash, noting at the time they were unsure if the remains were human or animal.

“We have confirmed that there is an investigation into possible remains found,” Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station, said Wednesday.

After a couple of hours of investigation, detectives announced the remains were human.

Shortly after 1:45 p.m., Deputy Armando Viera Jr., wrote in a news release that the remains were human, but that the identity of the deceased individual was unknown.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
