What: Adop­tion is a mean­ing­ful way for in­di­vid­u­als and cou­ples to ful­fill their dream of par­ent­ing. There are ap­prox­i­mately 64,000 chil­dren in foster care in Cal­i­for­nia. Los An­ge­les County’s foster care pop­u­la­tion ex­ceeds 21,000 chil­dren with 200 foster chil­dren wait­ing to be con­nected to a fam­ily who will adopt. Chil­dren’s Bureau of­fers a com­pre­hen­sive foster care and adop­tion pro­gram that brings fam­i­lies to­gether for a life­time. ‘Em­brac­ing Growth’ Art Ex­hibit by Skye Am­ber Sweet

What: Ex­plore the or­ganic and soul­ful paint­ings cre­ated by Skye Am­ber Sweet at her new ex­hibit, “Em­brac­ing Growth,” show­cas­ing works that high­light the won­der of life. The free ex­hibit is on dis­play in the Com­mu­nity Room at the Old Town Ne­whall Li­brary. Art en­thu­si­asts of all lev­els are also in­vited to par­tic­i­pate in the artist re­cep­tion on Wednes­day, Feb. 6 from 6-8 p.m. The ex­hibit will be cel­e­brated with light ap­pe­tiz­ers, live mu­sic and a chance for the pub­lic to meet the tal­ented artist be­hind the pieces fea­tured in the ex­hibit. Am­ber’s pas­sion to make a dif­fer­ence in pub­lic spa­ces shows through her com­mit­ment to fundrais­ing for the projects she takes on, and through the emo­tional paint­ings she cre­ates. To her, the can­vases on which she paints are the fer­tile ground from which her projects grow. Her paint­ings em­brace nat­u­ral im­agery, in­clud­ing trees with de­tailed leaves, bark, branches and roots. Am­ber’s artis­tic ef­forts cul­mi­nate into works of art and beauty for view­ers to en­joy. The ex­hibit will be on dis­play un­til June 4.

Orches­tra to present win­ner of fifth an­nual Stu­dent Con­certo Com­pe­ti­tion

What: The Santa Clarita Phil­har­monic will present the fi­nal con­cert of its 2018-19 sea­son. The con­cert will be at the Santa Clarita Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter at the Col­lege of the Canyons. The con­cert is free to the pub­lic. The pro­gram, “Youth and Pops” will fea­ture the win­ner of the fifth an­nual Stu­dent Con­certo Com­pe­ti­tion dur­ing the first half along with Beethoven’s Eg­mont Over­ture and Mozart’s Sym­phony No. 40. The sec­ond half of the con­cert will in­clude the “Over­ture to Brian’s House,” from a film score by Con­cert­mas­ter Kirk Hunter, the theme from “Cin­ema Par­adiso,” se­lec­tions from the Broad­way show “Hamil­ton,” and the “Suite from Dances with Wolves.” Twelve year old Keigo Ta­maki, the win­ner of the Stu­dent Con­certo Com­pe­ti­tion, is an eighth­grade stu­dent at Ran­cho Pico ju­nior High School.
