What: The Brittany Foundation Sanctuary & Dog Rescue shows our adoptable dogs at the PetSmart National Adoption Weekend events held four times a year in Stevenson Ranch. The Brittany Foundation is currently scheduled to be at PetSmart every third Saturday of the month with more dogs that need forever homes. ‘Embracing Growth’ Art Exhibit by Skye Amber Sweet
What: Explore the organic and soulful paintings created by Skye Amber Sweet at her new exhibit, “Embracing Growth,” showcasing works that highlight the wonder of life. The free exhibit is on display in the Community Room at the Old Town Newhall Library. Art enthusiasts of all levels are also invited to participate in the artist reception on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit will be celebrated with light appetizers, live music and a chance for the public to meet the talented artist behind the pieces featured in the exhibit. Amber’s passion to make a difference in public spaces shows through her commitment to fundraising for the projects she takes on, and through the emotional paintings she creates. To her, the canvases on which she paints are the fertile ground from which her projects grow. Her paintings embrace natural imagery, including trees with detailed leaves, bark, branches and roots. Amber’s artistic efforts culminate into works of art and beauty for viewers to enjoy. The exhibit will be on display until June 4.

Orchestra to present winner of fifth annual Student Concerto Competition
What: The Santa Clarita Philharmonic will present the final concert of its 2018-19 season. The concert will be at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at the College of the Canyons. The concert is free to the public. The program, “Youth and Pops” will feature the winner of the fifth annual Student Concerto Competition during the first half along with Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. The second half of the concert will include the “Overture to Brian’s House,” from a film score by Concertmaster Kirk Hunter, the theme from “Cinema Paradiso,” selections from the Broadway show “Hamilton,” and the “Suite from Dances with Wolves.” Twelve year old Keigo Tamaki, the winner of the Student Concerto Competition, is an eighthgrade student at Rancho Pico junior High School.
