Walk for Life supports Pregnancy Center
Funds raised support exams, counseling, education, prenatal and early infant care
Hundreds of Santa Clarita residents gathered at the Community Crossroad Church early on a rainy Saturday for the Walk for Life charity event. Before starting the walk, children got their faces painted, health services booths provided health information and the participants mingled.
Participants began to walk at the start line along with their loved ones. Some of them were carrying bright colorful balloons and cheering for one another.
Then, they proceeded to Newhall Ranch Road and ended the walk at the church. In the middle of the 2-mile walk, they got the opportunity to visit the Santa Clarita Valley Pregnancy Center and have a tour of the location. It was done so they can be familiar with the nonprofit and resources it offers.
Funds raised in the Sept. 28 walk support resources like pregnancy exams, counseling, educating the community on prenatal and early infant care, and other resources.
Angela Bennett, CEO and president of the Santa Clarita Pregnancy Center, has been involved in the center over the past 20 years. Bennett said their mission is to impact lives and provide holistic care for women and families facing unplanned pregnancies.
“The vision is to help,” said Bennett. “We want to provide information, education, practical assistance, so that all questions are answered and all information is present and available so that they can make a great decision.”
According to Bennett, about 700 to 800 people showed up last year, but this year she said about 600 participated due to rainy conditions
She feels the community's response toward the walk event has been positive and it encourages her to continue providing services.
“You know, this community has always been supportive.” Bennett said. “I don’t think organizations make 32 years in a community without great community support … I think there is favor in the community for the organization in the work that it does.”
