Brawl near mall ends with 2 arrests, 1 hurt
A large fight in a Westfield Valencia Town Center parking garage near Black ‘N Blue early Sunday morning saw one man beaten and unconscious and two out-of-town men arrested.
Shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were flagged down by a citizen who told them about a brawl at the mall, said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
“Deputies responded to a large fight involving over three dozen patrons near the parking structure,” she said.
When deputies arrived at the parking structure near the bar, they found a crowd of 30 people in the parking area, she said Monday.
“Ten people were actually fighting with the crowd congregating around them,” Miller said.
When the people were separated, deputies found one man beaten and unconscious.
“An off-duty paramedic rendered medical aid while they waited for paramedics,” Miller said.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene shortly after 2 a.m.
When they arrived, they were told to wait until deputies said it was safe, Fire Department spokesman Art Marrujo said.
The injured man, described only as a man in his early 20s, was rushed to the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital at 2:18 a.m., he said.
“Two are in custody as a result of that (incident),” said Lt. Doug Morhoff of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
Alejandro Tijerino, 25, of Palmdale, was arrested on suspicion of felony battery likely to cause great bodily injury and on suspicion of obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor.
Andrew Hemphill, 24, of North Hills, was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing a peace officer.
Both accused men are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
The Black ‘N Blue club and restaurant opened in June on the corner location of what previously housed the EMC Seafood & Raw Bar and, before that, the Tilted Kilt.
