Jana Rae Adkins

Jana R. Adkins died at her home in Saugus, Calif. on the evening of Oct. 12, 2020 after a long illness.
As a young child Adkins lived briefly in Alaska. She grew up and graduated high school in Tacoma, Wash. and attended the University of Washington where she studied Liberal Arts.
After she moved to Southern California, she worked briefly in the production office of an entertainment business at Universal Studios before joining the Los Angeles Times.
Adkins worked in Advertising Sales Operations at the LAT for 30 years. She served in a variety of positions starting as an advertising sales rep. and quickly advanced to management. Adkins became an Assistant Telephone Sales Division Manager and then Telephone Sales Division Manager, one of only 23 women at the LAT at that level of management or higher. She later was promoted to project manager and ad production manager with multi-site management responsibilities.
In 2009 she left the LAT and joined SGC, LLC as the Vice President of Operations.
Her life-long love of newspapers brought her back to the industry in 2010 when she joined the newsroom staff of The Santa Clarita Signal newspaper where she served as Business Editor. In 2016 she was promoted to Managing Editor where she established editorial direction for the Santa Clarita Valley Business Journal and for The Signal newspaper before retiring in 2017.
She is survived by her husband John Latusko, daughter Meghan Adkins (Jeffrey) Frank and grandson Connor Frank, as well as her mother, Shirley Adkins and brother Shawn Adkins of Washington state. Her brother Mark Adkins and father Robert Blair Adkins preceded her in death.
