Two suspects accused of having committed felonies within the Santa Clarita Valley returned to court this week.

Nicole Thibault

A local woman charged with murder, attempted murder and assault returned to court Wednesday.

Nicole Thibault, 31, of the Santa Clarita Valley, is accused of having stolen a truck in Riverside on Jan. 22, 2018, driving it down Interstate 210, then veering into oncoming traffic in Claremont, colliding with a vehicle driven by Daniel Castillo, 69, of Fontana, and killing him.

She is scheduled to return to court on June 1 for a pretrial hearing. A pretrial hearing involves the judge, prosecution and defense convening in order to present evidence, documents and/or any other relevant materials/matters before the trial begins.

A total of four vehicles were involved in the collision. Two other drivers involved in the crash, a 58-year-old woman from Fontana and a 58-yearold Upland man, both received moderate injuries.

Thibault suffered major injuries in the crash and was transported to the hospital. She was formally arrested on 14 charges on Jan. 31, 2018, after being released from the hospital.

She is being held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.

Alvin Marks

Alvin Marks, 30, has been charged with three counts related to an alleged domestic abuse incident in August of last year.

After appearing in court on Tuesday for a prelim setting, he is scheduled to once again return for another prelim setting on May 13. A prelim setting is a hearing date to schedule a preliminary hearing — when the evidence is presented to the judge who decides whether the trial will move ahead.

Marks has been charged with one count of injuring a spouse, cohabitant, fiancée, girlfriend or child’s parent; one count of criminal threats; and one count of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, according to an email sent by Pamela Johnson, public information officer for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, at the time of Marks’ arraignment.

According to investigators, Marks was responsible for sending his girlfriend at the time to the hospital following an Aug. 29 domestic violence incident. She was nine weeks pregnant at the time.

Marks was arrested by SCV deputies on the 27000 block of Sierra Highway on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with detectives’ investigation.
