Caleb Luke Romero passed on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in Canyon Country, CA. He was only 20 years old.

Caleb was born in Valencia, California on December 22, 2000. Although he was a beloved and cherished only child of his parents, he had many brothers from his chosen family of friends including Elliot, Sam, Ben, Phenix and many more. Caleb was a student at the College of the Canyons and worked at a local coffee shop.

Caleb brought laughter and joy to all those around him. He was a good listener, held empathy, and consoled anyone in need or in pain in a manner which was far beyond his age. His parents thought of Caleb as an old soul, but many people describe him as a kind and funny young man with the sweetest soul. Caleb easily made friends with people of all ages. He was loyal and kind to his family and friends. He simply loved and was loved by many. The support and condolences from his family, friends, and the community have been overwhelming. It is clear from their stories that Caleb had a positive impact and touched so many lives.

Caleb was also athletic, curious, and creative. He started playing soccer at an early age, played club football in Junior High, and played JV and Varsity Lacrosse at West Ranch High School. He loved hiking, swimming, mountain bike riding, skateboarding, video gaming, and playing lacrosse. He was a foodie and enjoyed foods from other cultures. He loved to travel. He had just returned from a week-long camping trip in the Grand Teton National Park with his lovely girlfriend Carlie.

Caleb is survived by his parents Chantal Van Ongevalle and Wilfred Romero of Canyon Country. He also leaves his maternal grandmother Joan Van Ongevalle of Rio Rancho, NM; his paternal grandparents Wilfred and Patty Romero of Santa Fe, NM. He is also survived by his Uncle Alan and Aunt Lorie Van Ongevalle and cousins Caitlin and Kiera of Amarillo, TX and many great Aunts, Uncles, distant cousins and friends in New Mexico, San Ildefonso Pueblo, Canada, and California.

Services will be held on Saturday July 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Canyon Country followed by a reception.
