Two arrested in connection with catalytic converter & mail theft
In addition to allegedly possessing various narcotics, two men were arrested on Monday in Canyon Country after deputies suspected them of stealing catalytic converters and mail, according to law enforcement officials.
The arrest stems from a report deputies received regarding a catalytic converter theft having just occurred near the intersection of Nathan Hill Road and Shangri La, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“It was reported the victim still had observation of the suspects who had just stolen his catalytic converter,” said Arriaga. “(Crime Impact Team) deputies arrived on scene and located the suspected vehicle on Bakerton Avenue and Kimbrough Street in Canyon Country.”
One of the suspects, a 56-year-old Canyon Country man, was reportedly detained and later identified to have an outstanding no-bail warrant for his arrest.
“He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia,” Arriaga said. “A search of his vehicle resulted in the discovery of a tool commonly used for theft of catalytic converters.”
Deputies said a second male suspect was also believed to be involved in the theft, but had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. After a short search, deputies were able to locate him on the nearby Foxlane Drive and take him into custody, according to Arriaga.
“He was found to be in possession of an altered key commonly used for mail theft,” Arriaga said. “Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station and remain in custody at this time.”
