On a spring day in 1839, scenic artist Louis Daguerre — whose daguerreot­ype would usher in the new world of photograph­y — and American telegraph inventor Samuel Morse meet for the first time at Daguerre’s studio in Paris. While demonstrat­ing their inventions to one another, they notice a silhouette­d figure in one of Daguerre’s pictures and devise an outlandish scheme to identify the individual – the first human ever depicted in a photograph­ic image. CBS Film Series Presents ‘Picture of His Life’ 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22

Congregati­on Beth Shalom, 21430 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita

The Congregati­on Beth Shalom Film Series presents a screening of “Picture of His Life,” along with a question-and-answer session with director Dani Menkin. The film tells the story of Amos Nachoum. After serving in an elite commando unit and witnessing the horrors of war, he became one of the greatest underwater photograph­ers of all time. The honorees and artists are to be featured in the Empowering Hearts gala, the signature fundraisin­g event for Single Mothers Outreach.
