Ed Mourthi

-

June 17, 1973 – December 13 2022

Edwin Mourthi was born on June 17, 1973 in Westwood, California, to David and Esther Mourthi (both deceased) and passed away on December 13, 2022 in Santa Clarita, California.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years Tammy, and his sons Joshua and Jacob, as well as his sister Edna and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who will miss him greatly.

Ed attended Venice High School and graduated in 1991. He later attended California State University Northridge. Ed worked in law enforcement with Culver City, Manhattan Beach and at Occidental College. In his last posting, he was security manager at Sherman Oaks and Encino hospitals. Ed also was a Certified Cpr/first Aid instructor, a disaster coordinator and active shooter trainer.

Ed loved baseball, softball, golf, fishing, and the Dallas Cowboys, but his pride and joy were his sons, whom he raised with his loving wife Tammy. He was very proud of Joshua, who joined the Marines after high school, and Jacob, a senior varsity baseball player at Canyon High School, and his life rotated around them.

Ed was a gracious, hardworking volunteer for many years, most notably with the Canyon Country Little League, where he served as a baseball coach for years. At high school games he could still be found reminiscing about Little League games from years ago. He also never found an umpire that he liked, other than his son Joshua, whom he once had to remind that throwing the baseball at a runner and hitting him isn’t an out like in kickball.

Ed was a helpful, caring friend. When he arrived at an event, whether a baseball fundraiser, a game, or a party, his first words were always ‘What can I do to help?” Two weeks before his death, he set up the football field for the Turkey Bowl on Thanksgiving Day, an annual gathering of many of the kids he had coached in baseball for years. When an injury happened that day, he left the game immediately to take care of the injured player. That accident maybe conjured up Ed’s ethos more than any memorial quote could: games were fun, but when duty called, he answered.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday January 22nd, at 2:30 p.m. at Culver City 7th Day Adventist Church, 11828 W. Washington Blvd., in Los Angeles.
