Dr. Myron Elmo Sproul, 99 of Valencia, California passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2023. Born on September 28, 1923, in Grantsville, Utah, to Mazel and Agatha Sproul, he was the fourth of five children. When he was four years old, the family moved to Washington, Utah. Growing up during the challenging times of the depression left a life-long impact on him. He graduated from Dixie High School in 1941, and the following summer, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was trained as a radioman to transmit weather conditions to military leaders. He was stationed in the North Atlantic and served three and a half years. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945.

Shortly before the end of the war, while home on leave visiting his family, he met Karma Cosslett and the two quickly fell in love. Soon after, they were married on October 31, 1945. They eventually became parents to four children: Christine, David, Wendy, and Rebecca.

Myron began his college education by obtaining an AA degree at Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City, Utah on the GI Bill. Continuing his education at the University of Utah resulted in a BA degree in English. He taught high school English in Overton, Nevada for four years before moving to Saugus, California to continue teaching English at Hart High School. During this time, he earned a master’s degree in Counseling from San Fernando Valley State College (CSUN) and then became a guidance counselor at Hart High until leaving for Apple Valley, California where he became an assistant principal. He returned to Hart High a year later and became vice principal. After earning his PHD in Education from Brigham Young University in 1972, he became principal of Bowman High School. When Saugus High School opened in 1974, Myron became its first principal where he remained until retirement in 1984.

In 1985, Myron and Karma moved to Escondido, California where they spent 23 years enjoying retirement by golfing, spending time with friends, and traveling to visit their children. These years were a time of carefree and fun-filled relaxation.

They enjoyed 63 happy years of marriage. After Karma’s death in 2008, Myron moved back to the Santa Clarita Valley. There he met Beverley Scott, and the two found they had much in common and became companions for the next 14 years. Myron also enjoyed this time in his life with Beverley participating in many social functions together with family and friends.

Myron remained healthy and active for many years. He golfed until he was 94! This past year he had Covid and other ailments that contributed to the need for additional care until his passing.

Myron is preceded in death by his wife, Karma; his daughter, Christine; and his daughter, Wendy. He is survived by Nancy Hull, wife of Christine; David Sproul and partner, Gordon Watanabe; David Vosburg, husband of Wendy; Rebecca Sweeney and husband, Patrick Sweeney, grandchildren Erin Hull, Sara Hull, Brandon Vosburg, Taryn Vosburg-bailey, Alia Vosburg, Cameron Sweeney, Colton Vosburg, and Wyatt Sweeney; and great grandchildren Tyler Martinez, Tommy Matinez, Trevor Martinez, and Madison Hull.

Myron will be missed by all who knew him. His kindness, honesty, and generosity defined the man he was. He will be in our hearts always.
