Amity Township’s new police chief, Andrew J. Kensey, was sworn into service at the Dec. 2 Amity Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

The proceedings were officiated by District Judge Victor M. Frederick, IV, Esquire, Oley.

Kensey’s wife, Betzaida, stood with her husband, holding the Bible, and later, pinned on his new police badge.

Kensey was hired by the board on Oct. 21 to succeed retiring Police Chief Kent A. Shuebrook.

Shuebrook has served as chief since February 2009.

“He’s getting a good police department,” said Shuebrook, adding, “You made a good choice. I’m sure you will be pleased with his performance.”

Kensey, age 46, is a veteran officer of the Philadelphia Police Department, including supervisor for 12 years -- and lieutenant for five years -- of the North- west Detectives Division.

He brings 23 years of law enforcement experience to Amity Township.

“It’s an honor to be here,” said Kensey.

“I have shadowed Chief Shuebrook for the last month.”

“These are great police officers, who all wear a variety ofhats,” said Kensey.

“I think it will be a great run. It’s an honor and a privilege, and I consider it to be one of the greatest achievements of my life. Thank you.”

Kensey said there will be some areas of improvement and policy changes.

Shuebrook said he will step aside on Monday, Jan. 3, when Kensey will lead the department’s 11 officers.

His contract ends the beginning of February.
