Girls On The Run of Berks County to host Annual Fall 5K at RACC
A life changing program for girls in grades three through eight — Girls on the Run of Berks County (GOTR Berks) will host its annual fall 5k event at Reading Area Community College on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 9:30 a.m.
This celebratory, noncompetitive event is the culminating experience of the 12-week GOTR curriculum. The 24 GOTR lessons combine training for a 5k run/ walk event with lessons that inspire girls to be independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions.
“Completing a 5K builds confidence through accomplishment and teaches girls that they can,” said Kimberly Rivera, Executive Director.
GOTR Berks is serving 21 schools, one community site and 345 girls this fall. Over 900 participants are expected at the fall 5k, including GOTR Berks participants, volunteer “Running Buddies” and community runners.
Full and partial sponsorships for participating girls are funded in part by local sponsors. Penn State Health St. Joseph is the pacesetter sponsor for GOTR Berks and presenting sponsor for the fall GOTR 5K. A full list of GOTR Berks and 5k sponsors can be found at gotrberks.org.
Online registration for the 5k is open through December 8, 2015, and can be found at gotrberks.org. Same day registration will be available at RACC beginning at 8am. Early bib and t-shirt pick-up for all running buddies and community runners will take place at the Goggleworks on Friday, Dec. 11, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. For those unable to pick up their materials on Friday, bibs and t-shirts will be available on 5K day be- ginning at 8 a.m. at Reading Area Community College. The cost to register is $30 pre-race day and $35 on 5K day. All proceeds benefit GOTR Berks.
This year’s race will include a Fun Zone and a Marketplace. The Fun Zone is open from 8:00am - 9:00am. The girls and other 5K participants will have the opportunity to do happy hair (colored hair spray), take silly photos and participate in spirit stations.
The Marketplace is open from 8:00am - 11:30am. The marketplace includes our GOTR Merchandise tent with a variety of GOTR gear for GOTR participants, those special GOTR coaches, running buddies and you! Where else can you get your very own GOTR Super Cape in bright pink?! For ease of purchasing, we accept credit cards and cash. Food vendors and sponsor tables will also be located in The Marketplace.
