Wright climbing scoring list
The Governor Mifflin grad heads into the season eighth in team history
Although she scored over 600 in her high school basketball career, Alexis Wright never felt she was dominant player for Governor Mifflin. So during the summer before she joined the Moravian College women’s basketball team, she decided to do whatever it took to become a dominant player at the college level. She set high goals for herself and work hard to reach those goals. Whatever she did to reach those goals, it worked.
Coming into her final season for the Greyhounds, she has put up some amazing numbers. She has 1,341 career points, which places her eighth in school history, 948 rebounds, which places her second in school history, 204 career blocks, 171 steals and 115 assists. She has become one of the most decorated athletes at Moravian College. Shewas on the D3Hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Rgion first and second team in her career, the ECAC DIII South All-Star first and second team, and the Landmark Conference All- Conference first team. she was also named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
“I feel my basketball career at Moravian College has been very successful,” said Wright. “I’m proud of all that I have accomplished on the court, but also extremely appreciative of all the amazing individuals I’ve met along the way and that have helped me get to the point that I am at now. My basketball career at Moravian has not only made me a better athlete, but it has also pushed me toward developing into a better leader.”
As far as records go, Wright will need nearly 600 points to catch the all-time career leader at Moravian, Kathy Beck, who scored 1,936 career points between 1988 and 1992. That will be difficult to accomplish, but second place on the all-time scoring list is very much within her reach if she stays healty. She needs 442 points to catch Sue Zimmerman, a 1995 graduate of Moravian.
Heading into the season Wright is second on the Moravian all-time career rebounding list, 66 away from Beck. She should have no trouble getting to the top of that list.
“I definitely want to work my way up that ladder,” said Wright about the all-time career scoring list. “It’s possible; it just depends on how hard I work and my consistency in bettering my shooting percentages. As long as I put the work in, hustle and convert my shots, I believe I canmake it happen. It would look pretty good to be in the 1,000 point 1,000 rebound club.”
Wright has a lot of great memories fromher days on the Governor Mifflin High School girls basketball team. But she remembers her senior season best..
“Definitely winning the Berks
