Residents and staff dance to the beat of KyoDaiko Drumming Troupe

- From The Heritage of Green Hills

The residents at The Heritage of Green Hills, a healthy living community in Shillington, recently enjoyed a performance by KyoDaiko, the Philadelphia area’s only taiko drumming group. The performance became interactive when the drummers invited residents and staff to dance and play the drums themselves. Members of the drumming troupe also discussed the history of taiko, the drums and their traditional costumes.

Taiko drums trace back hundreds of years in Japan, where they were used in battle to communicate over great distances. Traditionally, only one or two drums were used at a time, but in the 1950s, the idea of using numerous drums at once was introduced and has since become customary, usually played with precise, elaborate movements.

The Heritage of Green Hills is a 55+ healthy living community located on 78 rolling acres in Shillington, Berks County. For more information, please visit www.HeritageOfGreenHills.com.
