KU takes down Penn State Berks, 115-75

The offensive explosion was the fourth highest point total in Golden Bear history

The Kutztown University men’s basketball team defeated Penn State Berks on Saturday night, 115-75, in a non-conference matchup behind a balanced offensive attack inside Keystone Arena.

Kutztown’s 115 points scored are the fourth-most points in a single game in team history and the second most in a game this season. Kutztown scored 120 in the season-opening victory over SUNY-ESF.

Kutztown (7-1, 5-1 PSAC) got out to a 7- 0 lead over Penn State Berks and led the entire game. KU was efficient all game long, shooting 60 percent from the field, 52 percent from behind the arc and 80 percent from the line. Nine players for Kutztown scored eight or more points and five reached double-figures.

KU held decisive advantages in bench points (5823) and second chance points (21-4). Kutztown was 13-of-25 from three-point range, two shy of tying the school record for threes in a game. KU made 15 in the season-opener.

Junior Josh Johnson ( Norristown, Pa./ Norristown) recorded team-highs of 19 points and eight rebounds. He was 4-of-5 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Johnson has scored in doublefigu­res in all eight games this season and in nine straight dating back to the end of last season.

Ryan Connolly ( Harleysvil­le, Pa./Souderton Area) scored 17 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting and 4-of-6 from three-point land. He also had teamhighs of three steals and two blocks.

Redsh i r t - f r e s hman guard Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) had his third consecutiv­e double-digit scoring effort, recording 11 points in the contest. He also grabbed six rebounds and was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Senior Anthony Selby (Jersey City, N. J./Williamsto­wn (Burlington County CC)) scored eight points and was second on the team with seven rebounds.

KU’s bench was outstandin­g all game long. Freshman Dan Cuevas (Stroudsbur­g, Pa./Stroudsbur­g) was the leading scorer off the bench with 15 points to go with six rebounds. Junior Martin Dietrich (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) had a season-high 12 points and a career-high seven rebounds.

Ethan Ridgeway ( West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) had nine points and a career-high 12 assists. He was 4- of-5 shooting and was finding open Golden Bears all game long.

Mohamed Farih (Kearny, N.J./Kearny (Saint Peter’s)) scored a season-high nine points and freshman Ricky Dan Cuevas was the leading scorer off the bench for Kutztown University with 15points in KU’s 115-75victory over Penn State Berks on Dec. 12.

Hicks (Coatesvill­e, Pa./Polytech) recorded eight on 3- of-5 shooting from the field.

Nixon’s 21 points, five assists and three steals. Christian Burggraf recorded 16 points and four assists. Baba Waples and Nelson Hine each scored nine points.

Kutztown returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in a Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Lock Haven.
