Rumler completes record season at Millersville
Millersville field hockey team and its goalkeeper Samantha Rumler, a Daniel Boone High School grad, achieved NCAA Division II statistical champion status in four categories following the 2015 season. Rumler led the country in goals against average, and the team ranked No. one in goals against average, penalty corners per game and shutouts per game.
Rumler set a Millersville record with a .32 goals against average, which was the best mark in Division II since Lock Haven’s Caro- line Gillich set the division record at .28 in 1995. Rumler led all divisions during the 2015 season. It is the third consecutive season that a Marauder keeper has led Division II in goals against average.
It was also the the third consecutive season for Millersville scoring statistical champion honors in team goals against average and shutouts per game. Millersville’s 10 goals allowed over 21 games and 0.45 goals against average was a program record and stands as the fifth-best mark in Division II history. Millersville posted 13 shutouts--one off the school record set in 2014. The mark ranks ninth in Division II history. It is the fourth season in a row Millersville has recorded 10 or more shutouts.
For the first time, Millersville led the division in penalty corners, totaling 314 (14.95 per game). The runner-up--Merrimack--averaged 12.77 per game.
