This week’s high school sports wrap-ups

Daniel Boone

Boys Basketball

The Daniel Boone High School boys basketball team opened the season with four losses.

On Dec. 8, the Blazers lost to Muhlenberg, 60-51. Ian Rathgeb led the way for the Blazer offense with 19 points. Ryan Okuniewski scored 16, while Jake Kuhn and Tyler Dorang each had seven points.

On Dec. 10, Daniel Boone surrendere­d 22 points in both the second and third quarters in a 79-61 loss to Pottsgrove. Rathgeb was the high scorer once again for Boone with 15 points. Okuniewski netted 13 points and Kuhn scored nine. Dorang and Kyle Stroble each contribute­d with eight points.

On Dec. 11, the Blazers played host to Twin Valley. The Raiders scored 23 third quarter points in a 64-50 victory over Boone. Kuhn scored 12 points for Boone, while Dorang scored 11 and Rathgeb had 10.

On Dec. 16, Daniel Boon traveled to Schuylkill Valley and came home with a 61- 41 loss. The game was tied at halftime, but the Panthers outscored Boone in the third quarter, 167, and in the fourth, 24-13.

Girls Basketball

The Daniel Boone High School girls basketball team is 1-0 in the Berks League and 2-3 overall after losing two of three games last week.

On Dec. 11, the Lady Blazers lost to Twin Valley, 37-20. The game was a close one until the Raiders outscored Boone in the fourth quarter, 15-4. Kaitlyn Keeley led the Boone offense with seven points in the game. Madison Spitko and Emily Scott each had three points.

The next night the Lady Blazers played host to West York. Daniel Boone held a 12-10 halftime lead, but West York pulled away in the second half, outscoring Boone in the third quarter, 16- 4, and the fourth, 13-3. Scott had six points for Boone, while Sydney Hayes scored five and Keeley added four.

On Dec. 17, the Lady Blazers opened the Berks League season with a 35-29 victory over Muhlenberg. Down by two at halftime, Boone outscored Muhlenberg in the third quarter, 7- 4, and the fourth, 14-9. Keeley was high scorer for the Lady Blazers with 10 points in the contest. Hayes scored nine and Emily Houck added eight.

Wrestling

The Daniel Boone High School boys wrestling team opened the Berks League season with a 45-19 loss to Governor Mifflin. Earning pins for Boone were: Jesse Enck (220), 3:32; and John Arms (285). Winning by decisions for Boone were Owen Powell (138), 8-0; and Brenden Valverde (182), 5-3.

Boys Bowling

The Daniel Boone High School boys bowling team won a pair of matches last week and are 6-3 in the Berks League.

OnDec. 15, Boone blanked Oley Valley, 3-0. Nick Charles was the high roller for the Blazers with a three-game series of 661. John Arms rolled a 651 and Ethan Resh and 629.

On Dec. 16, the Blazers also shutout Reading, 3-0. Resh was the high scorer for Boone with a 781 series. Arms bowled a 669 and Charles a 609.

Girls Bowling

The Daniel Boone High School girls bowling team split a pair of matches last week and are 6-3 in the Berks League.

On Dec. 15, the Lady Blazers lost to Oley Valley, 3-0. Lizzy Roney was high roller for Daniel Boone with a three-game series of 535. Gabby Dodson bowled a 485.

On Dec. 16, Daniel Boone blanked Reading, 3-0. Roney was high roller once again with a 525 series. Dodson bowled a 447 and Lauren Marley bowled a 379 series.

Exeter Boys Basketball

The Exeter Township High School boys basketball teamlost a pair of games last week and are 1-5 overall this season. On Dec. 12, the Eagles fell to Boyertown, 54-51. The Eagles led by one after three quarters, but the Bears outscored Exeter in the final period, 54-51. Riley Dobranieck­i led the Exeter offense with 17 points, while Gabe

Schappell netted 12 and Keshawn Slyth had eight.

On Dec. 15, the Eagles opened the Berks League season with a road game in Shillingto­n. Governor Mifflin scored 18 fourth quarter points in a 50-47 victory over Exeter. Shaun O’Reilly was high scorer for Exeter with 12 points. Schappell scored 11 and Austin Gilbert canned eight.

Girls Basketball

The Exeter Township High School girls basketball team fell to 0-3 overall last week after losing to Coatesvill­e, 72-59. Coatesvill­e scored 27 fourth quarter points to pull away. AbyMengel and Ali Snyder each had big games offensivel­y with 21 points apiece. Sarah Musselman scored eight points and Sammi Snyder scored six.

Wrestling

The Exeter Township High School wrestling team improved to 2-0 in the Berks League after a 73-4 thrashing of ConradWeis­er. Winning by pins for Exeter were: Austin De.Santo (126), 0:58; Brett Kulp (132), 1:27; Justin Landis (145), 3:36; Terry Harkness (152), 0:22: Tyler Bagoly (160), 1:05. James Harrkness (138) won by a technical fall, 16-1, as did Tyler Borton (170), 15-0. Oscar Daniels (106) won by a 5-2 decision, while Scott Schaeffer (182), ChaseGuild­in (106) and Ryahn Watts (113) all won by forfeits.

Boys Bowling

The Exeter Township High School boys bowling team improved to 5-1 in the Berks League after defeating Muhlenberg on Dec. 16, 3-0. Andrew Gouck and Colin Flohr each had three-game series of 721, while Alex Bortz rolled a 588 series.

The Exeter Township High School boys bowling team fell to 1-5 after being shutout by Muhlenberg last week, 3-0. Amanda Zappacosta led the way for the Lady Eagles with a threegame series of 656. Alexis Schwenk rolled a 582 series.

Governor Mifflin Boys Basketball

The Governor Miff lin High School boys basketball team split a pair of games last week. The Mustangs are 1-0 in the Berks League and 3-2 overall.

On Dec. 11, the Mustangs lost to Pottsville, 53-39. The game was a close one until Pottsville outscored Mifflin in the third quarter, 21-9. Bubba Peters led the Mifflin offense with 17 points. Dominique Diaz-Cruz contribute­d with nine points and Ben Walmer had six.

On Dec. 15, the Mustangs opened the Berks League season with a 50-47 win over Exeter. The Eagles led by one after three quarters, but Mifflin outscored their guests in the final period, 18-14. Peters led the way for Mifflin once again with 14 points in the contest. Isaiah Tisdale was right behind him with 13 points, while Reese Harman scored 10 and Diaz-Cruz scored five.

Girls Basketball

The Governor Miff lin High School girls basketball team split a pair of games last week and are 5-1 overall this season.

On Dec. 12, the Lady Mustangs played host to Hempfield. Mifflin had little trouble in this game as they scored 13 points in all four quarters on their way to a 5223 victory. Kyra Hartman led a balanced Mustang offense

with nine points in the game. Jennifer Martin scored eight points while Kylie Herman and Madison Koehler each scored seven. Emonie Reviere and Melissa Martin each had six points.

On Dec. 14, the Lady Mustangs traveled to Central Dauphin and came home with a 58-51 loss. Governor Mifflin led at halftime, 2422, but Central Dauphin outscored the Lady Mustangs in the third quarter, 14-10, and the fourth, 22-17. Melissa Martin was high scorer for Mifflin with 14 points. Hartman scored 11 points while Reviere added nine and KIoehler scored seven.

Wrestling

The Governor Mif flin High School wrestling opened the Berks League with a 45-19 victory over

Daniel Boone. Winning by pins for Governor Mifflin were: Dante Cavallucci (160), 2:45; Cameron Dotterer (152), 1:43; Dylan Harr (195), 1:05; John Arentz (126), 1:28; and Elijah Horst (132), 3:34, Winning by decisions for Mifflin were: Will Kitsch (170), 5-2; Kyle Seibert (113), 13-9; and Zachary Sheetz (145), 8-3. Alex Centeno (120) won by a forfeit.

Boys Bowling

The Governor Miff lin High School boys bowling team split a pair of matches last week and are 1-5 in the Berks League and 3-6 overall.

On Dec. 14, the Mustangs lost to Wilson, 3-0. Chris Seng was the high roller for Mifflin with a three-game series of 639. Brian Milkins bowled a 581 series.

On Dec. 17, Governor Mifflin defeated Hamburg, 2-1. Nick Ash led the way for the Mustangs with a 684 series. Milkins rolled a 618 series and Alex Arroyo bowled a 597.

Girls Bowling

The Governor Miff lin High School girls bowling team improved a pair of matches last week, improving to 7-2 in the Berks League.

On Dec. 14, the Mustangs shutout Wilson, 3- 0. Nicole Stambaugh was the top bowler for the Lady Mustangs with a three-game series of 706. Emily Garl bowled a 612 and Shelby Gurtowski a 539.

On Dec. 17, Governor Mifflin topped Hamburg, 2-1. Laruen Weber bowled a 551 series for Mifflin, while Gurtow ski bowled a 429 series and Morgan Sheirer as 426.
