Amity resolution honors retiring manager.
Dec. 18 declared ‘Uncle Chazz Lyon Day’
The Amity Township Board of Supervisors unanimously passed resolution 15-25 on Dec. 16, declaring Dec. 18 as “Uncle Chazz Lyon Day,” in honor of retiring township Manager Charles E. Lyon.
Lyon has served as manager since July 2003, when he resigned from the manager job at Manheim Township, Lancaster County, to return to Amity Township, where he was born and raised.
The board also unanimously approved the township’s 2016 $4.183 million budget with no tax increase.
Board members said Lyon’s 12 years as manager are highlighted by 12 years of no general fund millage increases.
Taxes will once again remain at 1.95 mills.
Properties with an assessed value of $100,000 pay an annual tax bill of $195.
Lyon said the township is borrowing $113,000 from the general fund to balance the budget without a tax increase.
He said the fund balance is $2.4 to $2.5 million, an increase of $200,000 from last year.
“I’m comfortable to take $113,000 from the fund balance,” said Supervisor Richard L. Gokay, adding, “We all want to thank you for doing an excellent job with the budget.”
Lyon’s retirement is effective Dec. 31.
Troy Bingaman, previously the manager at Exeter Township, has been hired as Amity’s new manager.
