Birdsboro Power gets plan extension for plant project

Borough manager: Project moving forward; timeline is on target

BIRDSBORO >> Birdsboro Power, LLC was granted an extension by council, giving the company more time to produce the final development plans for the power plant project at the former Ar- morcast site.

Borough Manager Aaron Durso informed community and council members that the continuance would extend the company’s time as necessary to move the project forward.

“They are unable to submit the final plans until they go to financial close and award the bid to the winning contractor in August,” said Durso. Although Durso assured the project is on as scheduled, council members questioned the project’s timeline.

“This is just a basic extension that we would give to any devel- oper,” said Durso. “Everything is going to stay on target. Their year is up, so they had to ask for an extension.”

The project also received the right of ways needed to run a gas line from Oley to the site. The council requested that proper-

ties not be claimed by eminent domain. The route was slightly doctored to comply with council’s wishes. The Met-Ed power lines are almost in place. “Things are moving well with that project,” said Durso.

In other council news, Mayor Joseph Peterson read from a letter recognizing Police Officer David Seidel for his assistance during an altercation involving a combative individual within Exeter Township. Officer Seidel responded to calls for back-up by officers from the township. Upon his arrival, Officer Seidel assisted with scene secu- rity and helped prevent further escalation until an investigation was complete. Mayor Peterson also requested a short executive session to discuss a personnel matter.

Terry Weiler, solicitor, requested a motion on behalf of Berks County Income Tax Bureau to pass an ordinance that would allow them to hire a third party vendor, which would assist them in collecting small delinquent earned income tax. The motion was approved.

Parks and Recreation will begin planning “Christmas in Birdsboro” in August. Cindy McGee, vice president, welcomes community participation or donations for the event. “It’s got to be bigger and better,” said McGee.
