Carnival proceeds to benefit Blazer Foundation
BIRDSBORO >> The Daniel Boone Area School District is turning to fun to raise money for school programs.
The district fundraising group, Blazer Foundation, sponsored its first-ever carnival on the high school grounds last week.
“This is a first-time event to try to fund raise for students of the school district,” says Blazer Foundation Executive Director Michelle Miller.
The foundation’s First Annual Blazer Days kicked off Wednesday, June 29, and ran through Saturday, July 2, at Daniel Boone Area High School, 501 Chestnut St. The event featured more than a dozen rides and games, a disc jockey, and various food vendors.
According to Miller, the long term goal is to have a larger fundraiser to meet the needs of various programs throughout the district.
“This year we’re hoping for the best. I didn’t know what to expect last night,” said Miller about the opening night. “There were ride specials — it was a good turn out.”
She explained how the event will help get the word out about the foundation.
“We need better name recognition – we want people to know it we exist,” said Miller. “We try to meet the needs of the most students.”
All proceeds from Blazer Days will benefit the Blazer Foundation, a non-profit organization. Planning for event began two months ago in cooperation with the local Tons of Fun which is providing the entertainment.
The event runs Friday from 6 to 11 p.m., and Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m.
