Shutouts for Gov. Mifflin, Exeter
Mustangs go to 3-0 in Section 1, blank Muhls; Eagles flatten Fleetwood
GOV. MIFFLIN 35, MUHLENBERG 0 >> The Mustangs overmatched the Muhls as Isaac Ruoss ran for two touchdowns and blocked a punt to set up another score for a Berks Football League Section 1 victory.
Mifflin (3-0, 6-1) got two firsthalf touchdowns and 111 yards rushing on 17 carries from Ruoss. Following Ruoss’ punt block, Kamron Wolfe ran in for a 12-yard score and a minute later Bryce Stubler went 72 yards for an interception return touchdown. The win was the sixth straight for the Mustangs.
EXETER 42, FLEETWOOD 0 >> The Eagles flattened Fleetwood after jumping out to a 35-0 halftime lead with Nick Sarangoulis and Brandon Unterkoefler each run- ning for two touchdowns.
The running back and quarterback each eclipsed 100 yards on the ground. Exeter totaled 340 rushing yards to just 62 for the Tigers.
Gabe Schappell caught six passes for 104 yards and ran for an 11-yard TD for Exeter (2-1, 5-2).
Fleetwood’s Alex Rubino had an interception and caught a 43yard pass from QB Trevor Koenig (5-for-12, 97 yards). The Tigers dropped to 0-4 Berks I, 1-6 overall.
READING 32, DANIEL BOONE
13 >> Isaiah Giddens had a knack for making the defensive play for Reading on Friday night.
Giddens finished with a 91-yard interception return for a touchdown, then followed it shortly after with a 40-yard fumble return for a score as the Red Knights scored four unanswered touchdowns during the second half and beat the
Blazers 32-13 in Berks 1 Conference play.
Offensively, Giddens carried it six times for 22 yards and added a one-yard touchdown while Zachary King had 11 rushed for 87 yards and a score.
The win improves Reading to 2-1 in league play and 4-3 overall. Daniel Boone drops to 2-2 (3-4 overall).
Boone quarterback Josh Ehst completed 15 of his 30 passing attempts for 178 yards and a pair of scores to Ryan Okuniewski and Chase Lacey. Ehst also carried it for 54 yards while Spencer McIntosh had 42
yards on 21 carries.
Okuniewski racked up 48 yards receiving while Anthony Zabala hauled in 52 receiving yards.
The Blazers will travel to Gettysburg in non-conference action on Friday night. Reading will look to keep rolling in Berks Conference play when the Red Knights host Governor Mifflin Friday night.
BERKS CATHOLIC 35, TWIN
VALLEY 21 >> The Saints pulled away in the third quarter in a Berks Football League Section 2 clash last Friday.
Berks Catholic (2- 0, 6-1) wore down the Raiders, who opened the game with an onside kick and had the contest tied 1414 in the second quarter, as Brandon George and Marcus Wilson rushed for three touchdowns and 247 yards combined. BC totaled 363 yards on the ground.
Twin Valley’s David Sabulsky, Berks’ rushing leader, had 102 rushing yards and 80 receiving yards. His 74-yard TD catch from Zach Gardner has Twin Valley’s biggest play of the first half.
