Police seek public’s help to ID rape suspect
AMITY >> Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a rape that occurred on Dec. 3 in a township recreation area.
Police posted a sketch on Facebook of a man believed to be involved in a rape that took place on Dec. 3. Police said the suspect attacked a woman as she ran on the trail behind a baseball field at the corner of Rosewood and Lake drives on the north side of Lake Drive.
Police responded at 4:41 p.m. after the woman managed to get away from the attacker.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned, possibly Hispanic, male. He is ap- proximately 40 years old and 5-feet, 4-inches tall. The suspect may be missing some of his front teeth and speaks with a combined accent and lisp, police said.
Officers are now asking for assistance from the public in identifying and apprehending the suspect for questioning.
“Unfortunately, people feel that they’re bur- dening the police by calling. I don’t want people to feel that way. I want people to feel that they can contact us,” said Amity Township Police Chief Andrew Kensey. “If they see something that’s even minutely suspicious contact police immediately. We’d rather be safe than sorry. So if anyone sees anything suspicious, call. It can save someone else from being a victim.”
Kensey said that if anyone sees someone they believe to be the suspect they should immediately call 911 nyone with information about the assault is asked to call Amity police at 610689-6002 or 610-655-4911. Crime Alert Berks County can also be used to anonymously report by calling 877-383-9913.
