Cops: Driver swerved into path of oncoming pickup truck
EXETER>> A head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck has left one man dead Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
The victim was identified Saturday by the Berks County Coroner’s Office as Kyle T. Eck, 23, of Exeter.
Exeter Police were called to the scene of an accident involving two vehicles on Daniel Boone Road near the entrance to Daniel Boone Homestead at around 1:44 p.m.
Upon investigation, police found that Michael Ferguson, 48, of Birdsboro, had been travelling northbound in a black Dodge Ram pickup truck on Daniel Boone Road near Valley Road. Ferguson had been travelling away from Route 422 near the Daniel Boone Homestead en- trance when a red 1997 Monte Carlo operated by Eck was travelling southbound approaching Ferguson. The Monte Carlo is believed to have crossed the double yellow center line into Ferguson’s lane, police said. The vehicles collided head-on, causing severe front damage and airbag deployment in both vehicles.
Ferguson told investigators that he had no time to break or avoid the crash, according to police.
Ferguson was transported to Reading Hospital in West Reading by Exeter EMS for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A small fire broke out in the engine of the Monte Carlo and was put out by Exeter Township Fire Department.
Eck was trapped inside the Monte Carlo and pronounced dead at the scene by the Berks County Coroner’s Office.

partment, Amity Township Police, Exeter Fire Police, the Berks County Coroner’s Office and the Berks County District Attorney’s Crash Investigation Team all responded to the scene.
