Gov. Mifflin girls basketball off to 5-0 start

Girls basketball

GOV. MIFFLIN 67, LEBANON 19>> At Shillingto­n Dec. 11, the Mustangs (3-0) got off to a fast start and ran away from the Cedars (1-2).

Destiny White scored a game-high 16 points for Mifflin while Kayla DelVecchio added 12 and Ta’Shonna Wright-Gaskins had 11.

Ta’Shonna Wright-Gaskins had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Kayla Delvecchio had five points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mustangs (4-0) to a win over Hazleton.

The story of the game was the Mustang defense which stifled Hazelton into zero points scored in the second half of the game.

Ta’Shonna WrightGask­ins (12 points), Stella Mollica (12), Kayla DelVecchio (11) and Destiny White (11) all scored in double figures to lead the Mustangs (5-0) over the Black Knights.

At Birdsboro Dec. 10, Courtney Gabbett led all scorers with 19 points for the Blazers in their non-league victory over Lebanon Catholic.

Emory Skylar added eight points as the Boone defense held Lebanon Catholic to six field goals in the game.

At Reiffton Dec. 11, Katie Bushong scored 19 points to lead the Blue Streaks (2-1) over the Eagles (1-2).

Jordan Davis hit three 3-pointers and led Exeter with 19 points.

At Leesport Dec. 13, Jordan Davis scored 18 points and hit a free throw with :09 left to push the lead to three for the Eagles (3-2) in a win over the Panthers (0-5).

Kelly Fetter scored eight of her 17 points in the fourth quarter and Sydney Himmelberg­er (13 points) made a basket to make it a twopoint game for Schuylkill Valley with :12 remaining before Davis made the foul shot.

Boys basketball

DANIEL BOONE 54, CONRAD WEISER 45 >> At Birdsboro Dec. 11, Chaunce Johnson scored 10 of his game-high 27 points in the first quarter as the Blazers (1-1) opened an 18-12 advantage over the Scouts (1-2).

Weiser tied it in the third quarter but never took the lead and Boone made 11-of13 foul shots in the fourth quarter to put it away. Logan Hinkle and Matt Okuniewski each had 10 for the Blazers.

At Birdsboro Dec. 13, the Blazers (2-1) were led by Chaunce Johnson with 27 points, including three 3-pointers, in the defeat of the Raiders (1-3).

The Blazers led all the way, and converted 20 fouls in the win. Gabiel Moss with 13 points and Aiden Kaplan, with 11 points, led the Raiders.

At Bucktown Dec. 15, Jalen Lucas and Sa’vaughn Davidheise­r each scored 17 points as the Wildcats topped the Blazers (2-2) in a non-league game.

Chris Surkosky scored 13 points and Jared Tranovich added 11 for Daniel Boone.

At Neffsville Dec. 11, Tyler Crespo scored 21 points and Brandon Mellott had 18 as the Blue Streaks (2-1) beat the Eagles (2-1).

Tyler Vicidomini had 14 points and Zack Oldac had 12 for Manheim Township, which used a 16-7 spurt in the third quarter to break it open. Alex Javier scored 24 points for Exeter and Kyle Holmes had 14.

At Lebanon Dec. 11, Jean Carlos Gonzalez-Belen had a game-high 17 points and Luke Collins had 15 as the Cedars (2-1) defeated the Mustangs (1-1). Bryce Black led Mifflin with 14.

At Shillingto­n Dec. 13, Bryce Black and Bryce Harman each scored 11 points to lead the Mustangs (2-1) past the Scouts (1-3).

Jake Plummer and Shakim Davis each had eight for Conrad Weiser.

At Landisvill­e Dec. 15, 12 different players scored as the Black Knights (5-0) jumped out to an early lead and never relinquish­ed it.

Bryce Black had a gamehigh 12 points to lead Gov. Mifflin.

Wrestling

DANIEL BOONE 63, OLEY VALLEY 15 >> At Oley Dec. 13, Daniel Drumheller, James Hogan, Michael Elphick, Brady Barton, Gavin Richard, Chase Stehman and Canton Dolla all secured pins as the Blazers (2-0) defeated the Lynx.

Elijah Karas had a pin for Oley Valley.

At Elverson Dec. 12, the Mustangs rode a fivepin output to victory over the Raiders.

Derek Defrece, Sean Muessig, John Arentz, Evan Dobson and Cole Lang all scored falls for GM, which also cashed in on a pair of forfeits by TV. Jordan Espinosa and Michael Casanova chipped in with decisions for the Mustangs.

At Millersvil­le Dec. 14 and 15, Exeter came away with six medals and a 10th-place finish. Gov. Mifflin’s John Arentz placed second at 160 to lead the Mustangs’ contingent.

Chase Guldin was fourth at 152 for the Eagles, leading their contingent. Joey Asterino (106), Jevin Guldin (113) and Connor Lender (145) all scored fifths, with Patrick Borja (120) and Nick Nettleton (138) seventh. Exeter’s 105-point total put it in a tie with Methacton in the 26-school field.

Arentz finished second to Wilson’s Kolbe Eidle at 160. Jordan Espinosa finished fourth at 285.

Boys bowling

DANIEL BOONE 3, ANTIETAM 0>> At Antietam Dec. 11, the Blazers outscored Antietam 2,861-2,617 on the way to a sweep.

Alex Horton had a 689 series to lead Boone, with Spencer Witzel following at 611.

EXETER 3, READING HIGH 0 >>

At Reiffton Dec. 10, Ethan Reimert rolled a 700 series to key the Eagles’ sweep of the Red Knights.

Following Reimert’s 278 were Luke Ravel and Tanner Schwenk with 619 and 610, respective­ly.

WYOMISSING 3, EXETER 0 >> At Wyomissing Dec. 14, the Spartans outscored the Eagles 3,268-2,980 to win their Berks Conference match.

Ethan Reimel rolled a 621 series to lead Exeter, with John Zappacosta adding a 605.

GOV. MIFFLIN 3, SCHUYLKILL

VALLEY 0 >> At Shillingto­n Dec. 10, the Mustangs saw three bowlers roll 600 series in their shutout of the Panthers.

Kevin Baver led the way with a 654, followed by Alex Coldren at 645 and Matthew Latham at 642. Schuylkill Valley’s leading bowlers were Jacob Wolfson (561) and Gavin Ulrich (539).

GOV. MIFFLIN 3, CONRAD WEISER 0 >> At Berks Lanes Dec. 12, Matthew Latham and Mitchell Brown were a close 1-2 for the Mustangs in their match with the Scouts.

Latham had a 640 series, one pin better than Brown’s 639. Clayton Inderbitze­n added a 603 to Mifflin’s total.

Girls bowling

DANIEL BOONE 3, ANTIETAM0>> At Hiesters Lanes

Dec. 11, the Blazers rolled up a 2,415-1,657 scoring advantage in sweeping their match.

Mollie Maggs rolled a 569 to lead Boone, which also got a 558 from Emily Wedemeyer.

EXETER 3, READING HIGH 0 >>

At Reiffton Dec. 10, Hailee Shollenber­ger rolled a 549 series for the Eagles in their sweep of the Red Knights.

Megan Myers followed Shollenber­ger with a 522 for Exeter, and Kaitlyn George with a 411.

WYOMISSING 2, EXETER 1 >>

At Wyomissing Dec. 14, the Spartans won their Berks Conference match with the Eagles by a close 2,230-2,115 score.

Exeter was led by Hailee Shollenber­ger (571 series) and Megan Myers (517).

GOV. MIFFLIN 3, SCHUYLKILL

VALLEY 0 >> At Shillingto­n Dec. 10, Emily Garl rolled a 791 series to key the Mustangs in their shutout of the Panthers.

Alyssa Breidegam also scored a 700 for GM, with Camryn Brown at 660 and Emily Breidegam at 650.

GOV. MIFFLIN 3, CONRAD WEISER 0 >> At Berks Lanes Dec. 12, the Mustangs rolled up a 3,267-1,170 scoring advantage on the Scouts in their match. Emily Garl’s 739 series in an honor match led GM. Camryn Brown followed with a 683.

Girls swimming

GOV. MIFFLIN 129, READING

HIGH 54 >> At Reading Dec. 11, Becca Brown and Ava Enriquez each won two individual races to head the Mustangs’ win over the Red Knights.

Brown took the 200 free in 1:59.24 and the 100 free in 53.32. Enriquez got her firsts in the 200 IM (2:14.62) and 500 free (5:26.94). Mifflin won all but one race, sweeping the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relays.
