Volunteer Fair set for Jan. 21 in Amity
What is a Volunteer Fair? Quite simply, it’s a way of connecting good people with good causes.
Perhaps you are looking for volunteer opportunities, seeking to learn new skills or connect with others? Or perhaps it is your resolution to make a difference in the new year and strengthen your community?
Or perhaps your local nonprofit organization is in need of volunteers? Are they the backbone of your mission? Do you need them to thrive?
People from both perspectives are invited to the Volunteer Fair Monday, Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., hosted by St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rt. 662, Douglassville. The date is Martin Luther King Jr. Day; a nation-wide day of service.
“The event will host a variety of nonprofit organizations, conveniently located all in one
place,” said Jim Trout, organizer and committee chairperson. “The event is for anyone who’s thought about volunteering and would like to learn more about local causes and ways to support them. It is our goal to make the process of volunteering convenient — which will result in a good match - ultimately being more rewarding and more fulfilling for all involved.”
More than 30 nonprofit agencies from Berks County will be on site, with a representative on hand to meet with and to talk with. Attendees will discover opportunities that match their interests, time and abilities.
The event is completely free — there is no fee for non-profit organizations to participate, and there is no entrance fee for attendees. Attendees will have the chance to win dozens of door prizes and receive give-aways from the participating organizations. Volunteers from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will provide a complimentary light lunch.
This is the third year for the event.
To date, the following organizations will be in attendance: Amity Heritage Society, Amity Township Lions Club, Animal Rescue League of Berks County, Berks Encore, Blazer Education Foundation, Boone Area Library, Boyertown Area Multi-Service, Colebrookdale Railroad, Daniel Boone Homestead, Daniel Boone Optimists, Diakon Volunteer Home Care, Earl Township Historical Society, Genealogy of Berks County, Miller-Keystone Blood Center, Monocacy Hill Conservation Association, Safe Berks, Shady Hollow Assisted Riding, TriCounty Active Adult Center, TriCounty SCORE, and Woman’s Club of Birdsboro.
This event is open to the public and will be held in the Fellowship Hall of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Road (Rt. 662), Douglassville.
