On-the-job training funds available through PA CareerLink Berks County

On-the-job training funds of about $4,000 to $6,000 per employee are now available to area businesses courtesy of PA CareerLink Berks County.

The federally funded On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program helps participating employers by reimbursing them for a portion of the new employee wage during the specified training period. Any Berks County business in good standing with local, state, and federal laws is eligible for this hiring incentive.

The OJT program is designed for individuals who already possess job-related skills and are laid off, are working to make career changes, or are re-entering the labor force. It gives the individual an opportunity to acquire new job-specific skills and knowledge while receiving the same wages and benefits as current employees in the same or similar position.

Nick Shirk, PA CareerLink Berks County business services supervisor, said the OJT program provides a multitude of benefits. “The program is designed for occupations with growth potential and often result in permanent, full-time employment,” he said. “In addition, the employer benefits from a simple and efficient administrative process.”

The Berks County OJT program is funded through the Berks County Workforce Development (WDB). One of the primary goals of the WDB is to identify long term, strategic workforce development needs of the community and propose strategies to meet those needs.
